Thanks! If I were to do this all over again, the only thing I would do different is use a bandsaw if I had one and, depending on the speakers, I might bypass the baffles completely. I used a Dremeel when redoing the back doors and the whole process was faster, the edges were smoother.

Remove it. This way the sound from the sub in the trunk can pass thru to the cabin.

Yes, remove it. You can do so by removing the rear seats, the rear side panels, and then the rear deck cover, exposing the 4 mounting bolts.

Pics are in the gallery if interested.
One thing to check is whether your speaker is firing directly thru the hole in the door panel. (I can't remember the position that's required offhand....) If not, you may find that the door panel resonates excessively when you turn it up. Just something to watch out for.
I'm planning on replacing my door speakers soon with 6.5" CDT separates. Thanks for the information. What size are your mids and depth?

I know this is an old thread but no point in making a new one for a question that can be answered in here. Anyone know the mounting depth of the front/rear speakers without the factory "enclosures"? I'll be making baffles most likely out of High Density Polyethylene (HDP, think cutting board) material in 1/4". Possibly 1/2" depending on mounting depths available.

How did you install yours? What size speakers?

The fit:

So your running a component set with a crossover. I might have missed it but does your 2gs have the mark levinson system in it?? An what's the impedance of those speakers?? I just picked up an 02 gs430 with Navi and the ML system and looking to install a set of infinity reference components up from and a set of infinity reference coaxial speakers, but I keep getting conflicting information about the Impedances from the factory ML amp and aftermarket speakers. Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to try the amp or spend the time to have it end up sounding like 💩
