Replacing A/C control and headunit
Hey,
I have a 1992 SC400 with the stock non-nakamichi sound system. Would I be able to connect a Nakamichi headunit of a 1995 SC400? Also, Would a 1995 A/C control fit my 1992?
Thanks,
Jake

AFAIK, all the A/C/climate units are interchangeable for all years. The Nak unit will fit, but you'll atleast need the Nak amp for the head unit to work correctly. As long as you have the CD changer in the Pioneer system, the Nak unit hooks right in, same plugs. But again, you'll need the Nak amp for the system to work. And there's really no point in getting the Nak system if you're not going to change the speakers...

I dont have a CD changer in there right now. The only reason I wanted the Nak system was because it has CD changer controls so that I could hook up a aftermarket changer without the need of a FM module. Also, would the system not work at all or would it work poorly if I keep my amp?

You'll hear something if you use the head unit without the amp, but trust me, it won't sound better. A lot of the controls won't work (fader, balancer) and you won't have any bass at all. Plus, you can't use an aftermarket CD changer with the Nak unit either. Either way, you'll need to use an FM modulator. The Nak and pioneer units used the same CD changers. That remained the same for both systems. If you take everything out, you can check to see if the harnesses are the same or not. I think for best results and cost wise, you should go completely aftermarket.
