Speaker decisions: sizes
Alright, here's the deal, I'm buying Airtrack's system, 2 12" W6's, Autotek 1000watt amp, running 500 watts x2 for the subs, and an autotek 4-channel amp running 75 watts per channel. Also he's including an EQ. He's keeping his MB quarts for his new car.
My question: Should I buy focal 4 inch coaxial speakers for the front and rear, or get 6.5" components in front and 4 inch coaxial speakers in back? If i change to 6.5 in the front, how do i do this? do i cut the door panel?

You will have to build a baffle to fit the 6.5's, but it is possible to put the 6.5's in the door no prob. I have them in mine. If you wanna go with coaxs in the back, which is a good idea BTW, you can do that too.
I'll try and dig up pics of mine and post them.

Well, I found out that focal makes a 4 inch component set, so im going to get that, along with focal 4 inch coax's in the rear. All is well

I'm not trying to rain on the parade. I just would hate for you to spend the kinda money you're gonna spend for the 4's and not be happy.
Just my .02.

Do I cut the baffle, or make a new one? And if so, how do i make a new one/what material? MDF?

Did you use the stock bolt locations to secure your new baffle? Did you have to drill into any metal?

I talked to my installer and I was correct. He did use new places where he screwed the baffle into. This is the reason for the shape of the baffle. It had to be cut that way to allow a place where to screw safely to.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

I agree with jmecbr - - - YEAH - NOT a good idea to go with only 4" speakers as your biggest midbass, especially all around. IF you only did them up front and still had some bigger 6 1/2 or larger in rear, plus your sub, then that can sound good (I did this in my Supra.) But going with 4" all around is a mistake, no question. Your transition between the mids and sub would be miserable. You need at least a 6 1/2 to make adequate low mids and not have to do this in your sub by raising the crossover frequency. If you were to try to overdrive the 4"s to get more low output, they would either sound lousy or you'd fry them.
