I just removed a dead Pioneer CD changer from the trunk of my '96 ES300. Model is CDX-M9071zt. Never had a problem. Played copied CDs, never skipped. Went to change CDs and unit would not open or play since. This appears to be a power supply problem. A local shop checked lines in, and said I was getting power to the changer. Could this be a controller problem in the amp or the dash unit? Any way to know for sure if the problem resides in the changer itself?
Be nice to know for sure before replacing it. I want to buy a new replacement or have my unit rebuilt. Any suggestions? I don't want to buy a used unit from eBay or a junk yard, and I don't want to hack up the car to install aftermarket stuff.
I am very pleased with the factory sounds, and want to keep system stock. Is this advisable given that the amp and dash unit are 8 years old. Are these parts prone to failure too, or is replacing the changer the sane thing to do? If so, where can I buy a new replacement or have my unit rebuilt? How much? Anyone ever have their changer rebuilt? Please help. Thanks
PS... how would I put a picture of my car in a post?
