Default Installing JL 12w6v2 to a 2002 ML NAV system??

I'm planning on purchasing JL 12" W6v2 in JL High Output enclosure and a JL 500/1 Mono amp from my friend. I currently have an 02 GS300 with the ML NAV and would be getting rid of the free air sub. Should i take it to get it installed at a shop or should i let my friend install it? Any experiences that you've had that you could share?

Thanks
Chris

hey would u consider selling ur Mark levinson amp? because I was having a problem with my amplifier it was causing one of my tweaters to distort. anyways I had it replaced and now it sounds really terrible compared to what it use to be. The music I would listen to was crystal clear no matter how the settings were now it gets very distorted when u turn it up. I took it to the dealership and complained and they brought a 2004 GS430 with a ML system. and of course it sounds exactly the same as my car does now. Even though the parts are the same I know that it doesn't sound no where near as good as it use to. So far almost everyone who is in my car now that knew how my system use to sound can tell the difference. By the way my car is a 2002 model. If anyone knows someone who would be willing to sell it or even trade amps or something I just want my old system back. LoL Thanks

Unless your friednd has a lot of experience I would let a shop do it. When you start hacking into something like the NAV/ML it can get tricky real quick. A good shop also warranties their work. I would get them to pull out the factory sub and but the JL in a sealed enclosure firing to the rear or up.

Actually it's pretty simple. Go and get an adjustable PAC Line Level Converter (about 20.00) and some 4ga power wire (bout 16-20') and some 4ga ground wire (5-6'). Run the PAC off of the stock speaker leads for signal, run the 4ga power wire directly from the battery and find a good grounding spot for the ground wire. You can find a some remote power just about anywhere, just make sure it's switched 12 volts for the remote lead to the amp. I would also get the remote bass gain that goes with the JL amp for some control up front.

Have fun!!
