OEM CD Changer repair
The following are for a SC300 12 CD changer
My battery was draining and the dealer said it was the CD changer not properly turning off.
The dealer wanted $375 for repair (90 day warranty) and $575 for replacement with a "refurbished" unit. with a 1 yr warranty. That cost is parts alone. So after a few hours research...
Elliott Electronics 800-666-8161 $106 + parts
United Radio 800-448-044 $225
Radioman 619-298-6700 $275
CarStereoHelp.com 800-428-1909 $275 "full refurb" and great site with detailed removal instructions
All repairs are flat rate, all except Elliott say they comfirm that everything is upto factory spec, not just fix what is broken, Elliot may also but I didn't ask. All offer a 1 yr warranty (again I didn't ask Elliott)
The guys I talked to at Radioman and Carstereohelp seemed very much on the ball. With what is wrong with my unit Elliott is probably the cheapest but I think I'll try Carstereohelp.com

The guys at Carstereohelp are really good. I shipped them my CD unit. He looked at it, wasn't able to fix it. He shipped it back to me free of charge.

My solution was to find a working changer for my 1992 SC on eBay and change it out myself. So far so good. but obviously it is subject to the same failure that befell my original unit. At least it was cheaper than the cost of refurbishing the original. You could buy a non functioning unit and hope that between the two you have the necessary parts to make a functioning unit.

Correct. Carstereo couldn't fix mine cuz he said he couldn't get the parts.
ES changers from 92-96 work on SCs. They have the same plug. I put one in my 98 SC. Only problem is where to put it so I have mine sitting right next to the older changer on top of sponge packing material to soften the vibrations.
Do a search for lexusaudio. He has extensive writeups on the subject.
Aliga also has one for sale in classifieds.

yes the es300 6 disc made by pioneer is a much more reliable unit. it changes discs faster doesnt skip and plays cdrs well. it has to be installed with the flip down door facing the trunk. email me for instaltion pictures at egusman@woh.rr.com
