Default can I tap the leads on the factory sub???

On my SC300:
I want to tap somewhere for a signal for my amp.
Can I can the leads going to the factory subwoofer speaker??

I did this beofre and the system work great for about a year then the amp for the the bazooka tube went out on me, I used another amp I had lying around, and that worked for about 6 months....

Is taping the factory sub for a signal killing my amps, or was it a coincidence???

Thanks
Ken

???? I assume you just want the sub signal and this amp is just for the sub, if not, do not read below:

Did you remove the old factory sub amp? Do you have the factory headunit? Your car should have a seperate factory amp for the sub....you do not want to use the output from that amp, you want to use the BLACK and the WHITE wire that is running into the stock amp from the headunit. Those are the low-level sub signals.

BLACK wire is + and WHITE is - for SUB

If you used the BLACK-WHITE and RED-WHITE wires that's probably what fried your amps. Those are high level SUB output.

edit: I always think it means "blue" but "B" stands for "black" duh.

It not helpful if it's wrong, old thread or not, those color wires do not exist at the SC300 sub's amplifier. I have a 1994 SC300 and the following is true per CL member moshlub: "1997 SC300,:

small purple wire -- subwoofer signal negative
small light-blue wire -- subwoofer signal positive
large red -- 12 volts positive
large purple -- 12 volts amplifier remote turn-on
all black -- ground
-- all others are not used"

The way i wired my system up is: i tapped the wires going to the stock woofer to a Hi/Lo converter then to the my new amp. for the Remote i tapped the ACC wire that pluges into the stock woofer amp works like a charm and trust me i like to BUMP

Tapped = spliced wires
Taped = used tape on wires
