Hey everyone- new user here

My name is Natalie and I have 94 SC400. I've had problems with it before and people online always seem to help me out. See here's my new problem:

My climate control display went out. The green light still lights up behind it but the black digital lettering is not showing and none of the buttons are working. It died on the heat setting-it's summer now and everytime I drive....I'm ready to burn! At the same time, my cigarette lighter went out along with the buttons to change the time! I checked all the fuses and everything is fine. I didn't take it to Lexus, but on the phone with them, they told me I need a new display which will cost around 700-1000 dollars. Bogus or what?

And...worsE! Today my radio wouldn't turn on after I got in the car. I checked the fuse and it was blown. Replaced it, turned on the car, and again, it wouldn't turn on. Checked the new fuse and it was blown too. What is going on!?

If I can repair any of this myself, please let me know what I can do. I'm pretty good with cars so underestimation just because I'm a female isn't cool. Taking it to Lexus is last on my list. Please help me out guys!

If you are blowing fuses on the radio even after replacing the fuse sounds like you may be grounding out somewhere. Is it a stock headunit or an aftermarket? Also I am not sure if all the components you mention share a common ground, might want to look into that. As far as replacing the controls go, you should scour ebay or the members for sale section. Someone will be selling one.

 

its a stock head unit for the radio.


regarding the climate control..... are you saying i should get a new unit for that too on ebay? you don't think it might be a wire somewhere for that too?

 

make sure you don't have anything in your cigarette lighter -- if a coin on something metal falls in there, it will blow that fuse real quick.

 

I only suggested Ebay if it turns out that you have to replace the system.
