stock radio.. no reception strength
I want to know if its my headunit, amp or antenna... my radio does not pick up stations in stereo 99% of the time... when this happens the volume is muted.. The 1% when it picks up stereo..."boom" full volume...
1) my antenna doesn't go up and down when the radio is turned on.. Is this lack of power causing my problem..?
I already pulled the backseat and cleaned the connectors with no success...
Any of my brothas out there know why this is happening...?
I really wanted to know since I plan on upgrading my system to aftermarket stuff but didn't want the reception problems to migrate to the new headunit.
thanks

Does your antenna even attempt to go up? Any motor noises or just nothing? Obviously your lack of reception is because the antenna is not going up so that is the first thing to look into.
Which car are you having the problem with, ES or SC?

The problem is with the Sc... There is no motor sound whatsoever... I also bought an aftermarket antenna and unplugged the one in the car and plugged the "generic" antenna in... The reception did not come in any clearer...
Not sure if its a simple fuse issue or what ... Thought maybe someone else had this happen to them
thx

Well, check your CIG fuse, it might be the prob. Otherwise it's either the antenna relay, the radio, or the wire harness that leads from the radio to the antenna relay. I assume that the antenna works if you hook power directly? Coming directly from the antenna motor, hook the + to the solid color wire and - to the wire with the black stripe.
Hopefully it is a loose connection on the wire harness.
It's not the amp, at least.
If you want to install an aftermarket deck anyway I would use the generic antenna you bought and bypass the antenna relay completely.

Thanks for the help... And i will take your advice with the aftermarket unit...
By the way...is it possible to install one of those BMW / VW type antennas on the roofline? I always liked the sleek antenna look... Thinking of going this road with the aftermarket stereo but not sure if its possible
