the worst thing you can do for newer model lexus's is get a remote start. Makes it so easy to steal your car. Newer model lexus's(i think 98+) have transponders in the key which makes the car unstealable through break-ins

I agreed with mikeyboy. I rather get a good alarm system that can make your windows roll up and down instead.

the statement about somewone stealing your car is totally untrue if you have remote start and your car has started if somewone jumps in and pushes the brake without the key in the ignition the car will stall i had a viper remote start on my last car !!!!!

Hey Guys,
I heard that if you want remote start on your car then you have to give up one of your keys. Is there any truth to this?

yes if ur car has the transponder chip in the key you have to give up they valet key or something so they can put it in the bypass box which they hide somewhere in ur car.

Viper systems are the way to go. Had one on my TL, and now on the GS. No problems whatsoever, and the range on the remote is *MUCH* better than the key remote.

No, actually you're wrong, you dont know what i'm saying. Our cars can't be hot wired. They have transponders in the keys. If you have a remote start, your car can be hot wired. Get it? I didnt say if you started your car with the remote start then someone will jump in the car and steal it.

AFAIK the transponder code is programmed into the ECU and keys. I'd think you would be able to just replace those and drive it away.

No you don't have to give up your key. I installed a Clifford Solaris and love it ...I used a PKT transponder bypass on my Remote Start alarm ( www.transponderbypass.com). Works perfectly and the car is as secure as before. Actually it is more secure than before, the key transponder is still fully functional. If you need any help with the install I can send you all the wire colors to connect the Bypass unit.
