I bought my 1997 es300 used and it does not have a cd player in the dash. I recently found out that it is capable of holding a cd changer in the glove compartment. Since I am a noob in terms of car audio I was wondering what is a high quality mp3/cd receiver that I can install in my Lexus. Any advice would be appreciated. thanx!

None. The only thing remotely easily compatible is the factory changer.
If you want anything aftermarket, kiss the head unit good-bye. You might as well chunk the weak, low quality amp as well when you ditch the head unit.

all depends on what your goals are for the car. if your just looking to add a cd player etc buy a stock cd changer, (i dont recommend this) or jsut buy a new headunit and leave stock speakers (considering their still in good shape and not blown) or buy new headunit and new speakers and run it off stock amp untill you want to spend more money and upgrade to an amp.
it all comes down to budgeting and your goals.
