Ideas for stereo upgrades
Hi, I'm new to this site and also new to lexus autos. I just bought a 2001 GS 300 and about the only thing that I really want to change right now is the stock stereo system. I did a search for upgrades but I wasn't able to find anything really helpful. I don't have the Mark levinson or the Nak. I already have an Infiniti perfect 10" sub and amp that I'd want to use. I'm curious as to what kind of upgrades people have done and what works best for the GS 300 or a similar model. I want to keep upgrades under a $1,000. I don't want to put dvd player in or a navi system, just a great sounding system. I'm open to any advice or suggestions.

Best bang for the buck is a simple speaker upgrade. The stock speakers in the GS 2nd Gen are crappy...they sound horrible compared to a system equipped with some good aftermarket speakers.
Infinity 10 should fit under the deck, you'll probably have to bottom mount. To get at the sub requires that you basically tear apart the entire rear section (seats, seat backs, trim areas, etc) in order to get at the sub.
As for speakers, you can make a custom baffle for the doors. Up to 6.5 inch is possible, but be careful of the mounting depth. You'll need spacers for the speakers up front, otherwise they'll hit the window as it's coming down.
Tweets...if they're thin enough, you can get away with swapping them out.

Ok as far as the baffles can I customize the existing baffles or will I have to create something? I was thinking about getting an Alpine head unit. As far as the speakers go any recommendations for them and the tweets? Thanks for the help.
