taking the stereo out isn't hard at all, but finding a way to mount the new deck is. you have to make a template for the new radio, and no one makes an aftermarket kit for it. you also will have to to the wiring as well. i had made 2 custom plates for my car, but broke both of them. first time the wood i used was too weak, 2nd time i used the right wood, but knocked it off a shelf and broke it again lol. so i'm hoping the 3rd time is a charm. here is a link on how to remove the stereo.

hope that helps

What type of stock stereo do you have? Nakamichi? Non-Nakamichi w/CD? or Non-Nakamichi w/o CD? You may be able to use a 87-up Toyota wiring harness to connect to the factory plugs.

Yeah, that's where you have to get creative. I installed a double din Kenwood deck and a 1/2 din pocket (temporary) to fill the small gap. It looks good. If you go with a single din deck then you'll have 1.5 din left of open space to fill. A nice 1.5 din receiver with a 1 din pocket is a nice touch.

As far as wiring goes, i hardwired everything. I used the existing power wires tapped from the harness (used a test light to figure out what was what). grounded to a point below, tapped the stock antenna wires, and ran all new speaker wires. Takes a little time to figure out what is what. Also, the toyota harness WILL plug into one of the harnesses, but the wires WILL NOT match up with what they are supposed to be. You may be able to use a battery to test what goes where and if they go to speakers, but because i did not use any of the stock wiring, i just left it alone. So all in all, youll need to tap 3 power wires, 2 antenna wires, 8 speaker wires, and a partridge in a pear tree. I have a few pics of the install process minus the headunit...i didnt think fast enough to take care of that one.

www.importtoys.com carries add-on kit for aftermarket HU. I think it's $50 + s/h.
