I don't think i poste d this here yet...night shot of the cluster & carputer in action...
takes ~20 seconds to bootup from hibernation...goes into hibernation in about ~10 seconds? definitely not bad at all...



There's still soo much to do with it...no time...

Camshaft

I know that there are remote manual volume controls for PC on a USB cable with a mute button. For SC owners, you could disect the wiring to use the existing volume and power **** to use, as well as pushing it to mute it. You should now call this the Camshaft Mod.

hey, so the computer is in hibernation over night and stuff? wouldnt that drain your battery? and you said something about when you take the key out of ignition then the carputer shuts off... how exactly did you do that?

it does not drain the battery if you drive the car daily...

I bought an OPUS power supply which is made for carputer applications...it has an ignition wire that you tap into the car to have the key turn on/off the computer.

It also depends on how you have your computer 'shut down'. If you have it go into standby, then a very little amount of power is being drawn by the pc because everything is saved to memory. If you have it setup to go into hibernation then everything is saved to disk instead. Hibernation obviously takes longer to wake up when you start the car, approx 20-30 seconds whereas coming out of standby takes about 5-10 seconds.

I have a morex case with a built in powersupply and a Carnetix P1260 voltage regulator/shutdown contoller. My setup completely shuts off power to the pc 90 seconds after the ignition is turned off. I could leave my car sitting for a long time and no battery power would be lost. The Opus power supply leaves power on to the pc continuously, even after ignition is turned off. It's not a problem because the amount of power it draws is very little and you would have to leave your car sitting for a couple weeks for it to drain it down. If you knew you weren't going to use the car for a while then you could just pull the plug on the power supply.

The Opus power supply is a combination power supply, voltage regulator and shutdown contoller in one unit. The Carnetix P1260 is a voltage regulator and a shutdown controller that is used when you have a case that already came with a power supply built in. Either solution connects power to the pc and the car's ignition and sense's when the ignition is turned on or off. When the ignition is turned on a pulse is sent to the motherboard to turn the computer on just like you pressed the power on button. The same pulse is sent to the motherboard when ignition is turned off telling it to go into hibernation, standby or complete shutdown depending on how you have your operating system set up.

Either through a headunit with aux input or my connecting the computer to the amp through 1/8" to rca connectors.

Has any SC owner put the actual PC part inside the dashboard? Does anyone know if the inside of the dash is big enough to fit a motherboard if not the whole case? I dont want to put the computer in the trunk because my system will pretty much eat that little space up. Glovebox is another option that I'm pondering but inside the dash seems the most feasible right now. Will it fit?
