no need for the volume ****, i'd like to make the complete radio trim flush...i might just do that and relocate the hazard/temp **** somewhere...

Volume will be control via the touchscreen...

AaronE: yeah, the most difficult part of this is mounting the display...

worked with bondo today...here are some more updates...this is my first time messin with bondo, cool stuff!

i still have to sand it down and fill up the little holes...spray it with primer, sand some more, then paint with some low gloss black paint...

I'm excited to see how this will turn out...i hope i don't mess up...

Question

How much is something like this going to cost, minus the cost of the screen??

This thread has me "holding back" the install of my piooneer flip scren and separate dvd player... I am thinking that this may be the way to go.
Gazi - realistically if some the members are able to pull this off, how feasible is it that other members may be able to get install help and bulk purchase prices for this project?

These CAN'T be bulk sale. They must be custom made.

Im sure members will help locally and on this board with all install questions/setups, etc. As soon as one install is complete we can try to replicate it, if acleansc4 does not mind.

You can basically put a carputer in ANY car out there. Some cars, such as the SC's, might be better suited for a flush mounted screen however due to the large area the factory radio took up.

Some advice for you guys, after working with some bondo and fiberglass this past weekend (on my front bumper cover), I would highly recommend an air die grinder with a good cone tip set at 60 psi for sanding. This will make sanding approximately 10000% easier then hand sanding. Use the air tools for getting 99% of the bondo, then hand sand the rest to utter smoothness.

Good luck and this project rules!!

Also, dont bother spending too much time sanding the first few coats of bondo, just get them *decent*, then slap on some more bondo, sand it REAL smooth, and fill in any spots

yep, this carputer can be put in any car!! the big thing is how nice will it look when you install it...

Here's a list of what I had to buy:
Xenarc 7" touchscreen monitor (700TSV) = $440
Via Epia M10000 mobo = $169
Seagate 20gb 2.5" HD = $114
2.5" to 3.5" adaptor = $6
512mb DDR = $50
Delorme Earthmate GPS = $130
Wireless G usb card = $30

I'm reusing my 100gb 3.5" HD as an external HD for easy data transfer

Note that these prices are retail except for the monitor which I got for a bit less...

Aliga: my plans for installing the mobo inside the radio area won't work for now, so I'm slapping it in the glovebox until I make Version 2.0 of my carputer.
