Default Price check on subwoofer

Hey guys. I just got back from Tweeter. I have a 98 GS400 with the stock Pioneer system. They recommended adding a 10" JL enclosed subwoofer in the trunk. They quoted me a price of $465 for the subwoofer, enclosure, amp, wiring and installation. Is this about right? Seems a little high, but I really don't know. Anyone?

As stupid as this may sound, I didn't know that there were different 10" JL subwoofers. I need to get the details on the sub and amp and will post the information once I have it.

Okay. It must be the JL Audio 10W04 10" W0 Series Subwoofer. Tweeter's price is $99 for the subwoofer, plus $75 for the custom box, $150 for the amp (I still don't know the details on that), $30 for wires and $60 for labor. The total comes out to $465 with tax. Again, I know nothing about this so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Default not enough

dude one 10w0 is not enough for that car, i sale jl at my shop, u should at least do 1 12w3 in a ported box for that ride. also try removing your factory sub in the rear deck so the bass will come through, works well
private message me if i can help, later

I would agree with you that the 10w0 is not enough but by suggesting a 12w3v2 is not helping because e-man is doesn't want to spend $465 anyways..The speaker alone if he went with a 12w3 is going to be $179 and then a bigger amp and more money for a ported box..E-man, as a suggestion have the tweeter boys make the box and mount it under the rear deck firing directly into the cabin through the same opening were the factory woofer was mounted..You will also need to dynamat your rear deck to avoid rattling..I am suggesting this because I have a 12w3 in a sealed enclosure mounted under my rear deck and it sounds good.. Hope this helps..

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. I really don't know a lot about this. I am not looking to rock the street or anything like that. I just want a little more bass to fill the cabin. What about pulling the factory sub and installing something like this on the rear deck:

JL W0 series not very well regarded - it is an entry-level sub and tends to be loose and floppy, not well controlled. Acceptable for boomy rap, but for anything else it may drive you nuts. W3 or higher recommended. If you're looking to save money, I'd go with something else in the price range other than a JL.

:-)
No sympathy from me there. That's a W0 in the enclosure, and I'm not a Kenwood fan. That's not to say you can't use it if you're really looking to save money. You would need a line-level converter to go from stock amp to Kenwood amp, then you would just need to find an appropriate spot in your trunk for the woofer enclosure.

Thanks. I'll stay away from it. Tweeter recommended the same sub -- a JL 10WO. That won't do the trick?

Engin-ear -- I just saw your previous post. I'll conduct some more research before I do anything. Thanks for your help.
