Default 93 LS, completed system w/ pics!

Hey all,

I just had my system finished this week. It's in my black beauty, a 93 LS400. I installed the head unit and XM tuner. When it came to the speaker replacement, I got in way over my head (see different thread). I had a car audio shop finish up the project and hook me up with some bass at the same time.

Here's the grocery list of equipment:

Alpine head unit CDA-9835
Alpine XM Tuner TUA-T020XM
Alpine 4 channel amp MRV-F340
Alpine 1 channel amp MRD-M501 w/ amp link to head unit
Boston Acoustics ProSeries 5.5 component speakers (Two pairs)
Rockford Fosgate 10" P1 subwoofers (two)

Pics:

Here's the mighty 9835. It was pretty hard to come by when I got it a couple months back. Good thing there's eBay. I got it shipped to me for $480. This head unit is incredible; time correction using the i-Personalize website, controlling amp functions via the amp link, cool screen, blah, blah, blah! The 9835 is second only to Alpine's F#1 Status head unit. I used the installation kit Earl suggested on his website.

Here's the trunk. They built the box so that it ports out the top through the old, stock subwoofer location. Right now I am getting the subwoofer grill rattling because of this. I'll figure something out. Otherwise it sounds great! I didn't even ask them to put the raised Lexus "L" in there, I drooled when I saw it. You can also see the amps mounted to either side of the box and the XM tuner mounted under the first-aid kit. The XM tuners from Alpine are only found on eBay these days as XM goes to a standard, universal tuner. I mag-mounted the XM antenna to the trunk lid and applied a felt pad to it to protect the paint. I can take it down when I wash it.

And your eyes do not deceive you, Calvin is pissing on Mercedes!

Enjoy the pics,
DRD

looks good.

imo, a 7" screen with a carputer would have been a more functional setup. here are some discussions on it:

Default You can fix the rattling grill problem by...

Simply remove the rear deck and apply a few layers of dynamat and make sure to add some to edge of the grill itself.Don't be afraid to do mutiple layers. This will prevent the rattle that you talk about because I had the same problem in my 93 gs300..Hope this helps and the system looks great...

Thanks for all the compliments!

I had never even heard of a "carputer" before you guys mentioned it. How would it handle XM or FM? Seems like more of a pain than anything.

I will definitely do the Dynamat thing to the back deck. The vibration/rattling is driving me nuts!

Later,

Default Add a tuner card

If you add a PC Tunercard, Leadtek makes one that sells for about $40 -$50 and this would allow TV and FM tuning as well as recording, if your hard drive has the space.

But the biggest down side to a carputer is the boot time A quick run down the street and you hardly get the thing booted up and then its time to shut down.

If I were ever to use one again I would find away to make it something to run alongside my stereo system and not in place of it (use it for movie storage for a long trip or mp3 storage, or as an interface for an EMS)... just an opinion though.... METAL
