Default amp & sub for a 96 gs300

hey guys. i own a 96 gs300 and i was wondering about the system i want for it.... i was looking for an amp and an open air subwoofer to replace the old one. my main thing is that i need to keep the system looking stock. my questions are:

1. Can i install an aftermarket amp and subwoofer while keeping the stock headunit and have all the components work?
2. Where can i find an open air subwoofer that sounds decent?
3. What kind of amp should i buy and how much would it cost?
4. Is it difficult to install an aftermarket amp and sub?

thanks for all the help guys!!!!

Lawrence

I don't know about the first gen GS, but on the 2nd gen you can. BananaGS did it on his. He used a line output converter to convert the amplified signal down to line level so he could hook up the aftermarket amp to the line level signal.

Also, on the 2nd gen GS you need to take the back seat to get to the sub. It could be the same for 1st gen.

Hope this helps

1. Yes you can. You need a low line level converter to do this...look for my thread about installing a sub in an sc400--process is basically the same.

2. There are a few choices, pioneer, JL, and if you are lucky, try to a find an Oz matrix free air sub.

3. About the amp, if you are only wanting to use the amp for the sub, get a mono amp. Meaning one output. Something small like a JBL 300.1 amp or something similar. You will need around 100-300 watts.

4. Not difficult, just takes time!
