Im guessing that you need to tap in around the parking brake, so somewhere in the driver footwell. The reason it wont play is that Kenwood doesnt want you watching movies unless the parking brake is set. If it were me I would try to just ground the wire somewhere and see if that works. That way you could watch it while driving.
You should probably know that it is illegal in a lot of states to have a TV playing while in motion within the drivers eye-sight. Most people never have a problem with cops, the only people I know that have been hassled had monitors installed in their steering wheels.

Default Parking Brake Switch

Im not sure on a Kenwood but sometimes you can get by by tapping ito the parking prake light wire so that you get power when the parking brake is applied, Unless they are like alpine where you actually need a small module to execute the barke - parking brake combination. To test if all you need is to tap into the parking brake light wire for a 12v source, just try touching the Parking Brake wire to the Constant power (yellow wire usually) once the unit is powered on! If that doesnt work then the must have some funky saftey switch like Alpine does! METAL

Start by grounding the wire. that should work. You don't want to put +12VDC through this wire if all it needs it to be grounded. My 2 cents
