Default Pioneer or Nakamichi in our cars??

I was just on another thread trying to buy replacement stock speakers from someone for my 95 SC400 and I found JL Audio speakers. The seller is telling me that the SC's actually dont have Nakamichi speakers and they, in fact, are Pioneers. Now that is contrary to what Ive learned otherwise and I wanted to verify that before I made any deals.
Any help would be great!

Also, (I know this should be in the audio threads but) they are JL Audio TR400-cxi and he says theyre better than the stock speakers...any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks alot!!!!!!!!

Default The electronics are Nak, but the speakers...........................................?

Whoever makes them, the stock Nak speakers are nothing special and you will make out better sound-wise (and definitely price-wise) by replacing them with any quality driver from Best Buy, Circuit City, Crutchfield, etc.

As an added bonus, you can go larger than the 4" stock size with a little cutting and fabricating, if you are so inclined. Plenty of info on this on other threads.

From what I understand, SC300/400 comes with Pioneer systems. The Nakamici is the upgraded premium system but doesn't sound too much better than the Pioneer imo. Either way, if you have a chance to replace the speakers that came in the car, do it.

Default CD player

On another note, is anyone else having problems with the stock 12 CD changer in the trunk? Mine has been replaced 3 times. Now it's acting up again after 3 years and my warranty is up. I was told we couldn't replace the changer with an aftermarket one. That can't be true. May take extensive re-wiring but I'm sure it can be done. Anyone else experincing similar troubles.

They are branded Nakamichi on the magnet. The labeling is as follows:

Nakamichi
S400F04
OC85589A
4 ohm
20W / 40W
Made In Japan
101A

I agree that they're nothing to write home about.

As for the CD changer, they're crap. Do a search and you'll find oodles of threads on the topic.

so what about the head unit? is there a difference there or is it just a label that says Nakamichi that makes it more desireable?
Im also having a problem with my CD Changer...Im just gonna wait for a good deal to come along...Until then I have my trusty iPod and the iTrip.
Thanks guys for the help!

If you'll do a search, there's some very informative posts by LexusAudio that details the differences- he says the Nak is one of the best stock audio units to ever come in a car.

Yeh, the 12 disk changer is no good. From what I've read it was designed in 88, and it has no skip protection. Mine's been busted when i baught the car

You may try and find a 97+ cd changer. They have higher quality components and they have skip protection.
