Inoperative Nakamichi Radio SC400 12cd
While attempting to find cause of poor AM reception the radio stopped working. When you turn the key on you get a dispalay in the radio (let to right) CFPEI FF FFFF. The only area I worked on was the antenna.
Unpluged the COAX from the antenna. did not disconect anything else.
Noticed what appears to be a second antenna wire with a threaded end, maybe the for the optional phone.
BTW annot do ANYTHING with radio. There is power, but NOTHING works
All comments appreciated

Non Functioning Radio
I decided to do some analysis on t is problem and discovered the following.
When I first encountered the problem I pulled the fuse for the radio (under the dash), waited a couple of mins and reinserted, nothing changed.
Today I figured I would check the fuse on the SEC system, and in doing so discovered there is another fuse in the engine compartment that controls the radio, cd, antenna, etc. pulled it, it looked ok. However after repacing it I turned on the radio, and lo and behold the problem was gone. Perhaps fuse 23 (eng compartment) killed all power to the unit and reset it.

Good job finding out that resetting the radio will fix this problem. The problem is caused by a software glitch in the radio. Without replacing it, could happen again or never.
Regarding the phone option, it does not plug into the rear of the radio. It plugs in at the trunk audio wiring.
Regarding your poor AM antena reception, REPLACE THE FM ANTENA CORD! I have seen this many times. High resistance in the fm antena cord WILL effect the am reception. Run the cord from the center console. then under the rear seat to the trunk area.
Good luck!

Thanks for info re reception.
Question. You mentioned the FM antenna, I assume you mean the antenna cable that plugs into the base of the antenna, only one that I saw.
Is there some 'trick' to removing the rear seat. I assume you have to remove it to thread a new cable.
Thanks again
