Default recommended amp power

If an aftermarket speaker says that the recommended power is say between 80 and 220 watts, and the stock amp with the Pioneer system in a GS puts out 215 watts, would the amp put out enough power to power the speakers? I assume the Pioneer amp is a 5 channel amp with 40 watts going to each door speaker and 55 watts going to the subwoofer. So, if the recommended power is 80-220 and you're only feeding it 40, what kind of sound would you expect? Obviously, the speaker won't be performing to its full potential, but will it still sound okay?

You are basically correct. The speaker will be underpowered. It will (probably) sound OK at low volume levels and with average program material, but as you try to get more out of it, the amp will distort, resulting in harsh fatiguing sound. The amp will not be able to produce the current needed to drive the speaker linearly to reproduce the proper waveform.

Hey engin_ear. Could I ask you a quick question? How do you remove the tweeters on a 98 GS4? I've got the door panels off, I've removed the nut holding the mounting bracket on the bolt, and I've removed the mounting bracket from the bolt, but there is something directly behind the tweeter that is holding the assembly in place. Basically, with the mounting bracket off of the bolt, the entire assembly will rotate around a fixed point (that point being directly behind the tweeter), but I can't figure out what's holding it in place. Is there a hidden clip back there?

Can't remember exactly - I seem to remember a tab that holds the back of the tweeter that is part of the door metal. Once you take the nut off the mounting bracket to free up the bottom, it should lift off of whatever is holding it. You may need to try different angles to get it to release. Try lifting it straight up, then out. It wasn't that hard, which is why I don't remember exactly how to do it , sorry.

Thanks. I'll wiggle it around to see if I can get it loose.
