Power Antenna bad?
#1
Hi all,
Got our 95 SC300 the other day.
I notice that the antenna does not go all the way down when the car is off or I turn the radio off. It goes about half-way down. Upon turning the radio on it will go all the way up.
Do I have a bad antenna motor? Or is there a gear set that can be replaced?
Oh yeah, how do I get to it?
thanks a bunch
p.s. if this is in the wrong forum, let me know where it should go.
chris

The antenna may just be dirty and binding.
Extend the antenna all the way and leave it there. Take a rag and wipe all the black crap off the antenna. Pay attention to the area where one part goes into the other.
If you need more than elbow grease to clean it, put a little lithium grease on a cloth and rub it on the metal. You should be able to remove most of the old grease and dirt. Don't use much. A little of this stuff goes a long way.
Now take a small amount of lithium grease and rub it on the antenna, particularly around the joints where one goes inside the other.
Now, extend and retract the antenna, adding lithium grease a little at a time. It should fully retract after a few tries. You may see more black stuff coming out after it goes up and down a few times. If so, wipe it clean again and add a little fresh lithium grease.
When you're done you should have a very thin coat of lithium grease on the antenna to lubricate it.
Can't hurt to do this every few months, just don't go too heavy on the grease. Only a small amount is needed.
