Default 97-01 Es300 Nakamichi 6cd changer head unit

I have the Nakamichi 200watt 6 cd changer head unit. I like the clarity of the sound system but the bass boggs out the speaker when there is too much bass or when I put it up 1/2 way i have to turn down the bass so it doesn't sound terrible.Does anyone here have the Nakamichi system?Did you guys replace the back subwoofer to a stronger handling one?I don't mean a subwoofer box or anything, just replacing the subwoofer in the back to a higher powered one.

If I remember right , I read somewhere the 8" sub back there is specially shaped, and is quite a turd to get out of the spot it's in.

I was thinking of getting another, harder hitting 8" and pumping it through the panel behind the arm rest, after tapping the stock sub's lines.

[ I get the same problem, btw. 97 ES 300 too ]

Kind of random, but just finished a little project doing what you just asked. Recieved the car (99) with the rear 8" sub blown. Have the Nakamichi sound option. Obviously the sound was terrible w/out the factory sub, so I looked into it. Went out and got myself another 8" sub, 2 ohm. Took me about an hour or so to install it. Had to remove the rear seats and seat backs so I could tap into the wiring w/out killing myself. Decided not to amp the sub, just wanted something that sounded stock at the least. The original is a bit annoying getting out, and I had to create some new holes to fasten down the new one, but like I said...little over an hour's work if you've taken anything apart before. Long story short, factory nakamichi head unit couldn't handle it. Got a nice pop and accompanying smell after running it for 30 min or so. Display comes up no problem, but won't have anything to do with sound. *Sigh* guess I'll dig myself deeper and go aftermarket...
