Default Just curious: What year did the stock changer started skipping?

I'm just curious about the stock CD changer. I had a '91 that skips and a '97 that skips sometimes. What year did it start skipping or is it a function of wear?

Is there a difference between the 12 disc magazine from 96 to 97?

I put in a CD changer from a 95 and now it rarely skips, if ever. This is with burned CDs of course.

With a 92 changer, it would play regular CDs fine but skip with burned CDs. However, I found that using Fujifilm Taiyo-Yuden (made in Japan) CD-Rs would fix this problem. Using these CDs, it rarely skipped. They are starting to make Fujifilm CD-Rs in Taiwan now (switching to Ritek media) so if you have a chance, head over to your local Best Buy and try to pick up some Fujifilm CD-Rs there. Just make sure it says "Made in Japan" on the packaging.

Hope this helps,
-Brian.

Another brand CD-R I've found to work is the TDK spindles you can pick up at your local Costco. Others tend to skip with various Lexus factory HU's.
