Hello, well I was wondering if there is a difference in going with 2 500's or 1 1000 for my JL 12W7 sub.

First thing that comes to mind is twice the wiring, power earth signal etc. Would be much neater with just one amp.

Two amps would generally be a bad thing to do, assuming you had one at twice power available. I assume you're asking this because you'd hook one amp up to each voicecoil of the W7. Well, the amps may not be perfectly in phase (timing) due to the different drive circuitry, if you were to use two amps. Any difference in phase would result in partial cancellation of the signal. If the amps were theoretically matched perfectly, you could do it, but this is never quite the case. The only thing you might gain by doing this would possibly be better heat conduction away from the amp, since the two smaller ones might not tend to trap heat as much. But this could go either way depending on actual mechanical construction of the amp.
