Default Is it possible to add a Lexus Nav to a GS400?

Is it possible to add the Navigation system of the Gs430 to a 98 GS400 without NAV?

If possible who does it and how much could it be? (ball park)

Thanks

anything is possible if you have the cash. I wanted to do the same as you converting a Nav on a non Nav car. Lexus dealer quoted me about 9,000$ for parts and labor which to me is def not worth it. Your best bet is to look around junk yards to see if they have the Nav including harnesses , Nav ecu and GPS antenna but will still roughly cost you around 3500-4500 "IF" you find one. Just get the eclipse double deck Nav / dvd unit or trade in your car for a GS with Nav you'll save much more money.

yes its possible to install factory navigation in a gs400. the moderator of this forum has done it and if you look up his posts you will find instaltion info. i have a complete gs navigation system ready to install including wiring harness if you want to go that route. it includes the latest update avaialble from denso the 98 gs navigation computer manufacturer .ther denso computers are the best in the industry . also the seperate computer in the factory system makes adding tvtuner and dvd inputs possible whereas the 1 piece units lioke on the lower model toyotas make it hard to add any other capabilities.

hey lexusaudio, I know you know the GS electronics pretty well. Letsride is who you are refering to. As I wrote above, he has a 98 and put the HD system into his car. kyle3481 has an 01+ and put the DVD version in his car. The Nav and car years match up in both these cases.

The original poster wanted to put the DVD nav into a 98 car. I have not seen anyone do this. Maybe you know or can take a guess at whether or not the complexity is manageable.

it hasnt been done yet but i am 99% sure a 2001 navigation system can be installed in a 98 to 2000 gs. ................................................................................................................ i just installed an 03 gs pioneer headunit in a 98 gs and everything was fine on the switch. it was just a matter of making the plug in and play adapter to go from the 2 connctor radio plug to the 20 pin connctor from 1 up. so i dont see why an 01 up navigation head unit and dvd nav computer couldnt be installed in a 98 gs. the head unit would fit . the ac control plugs are the same. you need to install the navigation wiring harness on a 98 anyway. they are not prewired for navigation system. it doesnt even matter if the 2001 radio on the salvaged navigation headunit is mark levinson because it it was also made by pioneer . tthe adapter to go from old 98 radio harness to new 20 pin would be the same as the custom ones i am already making. for using 2001 up lexus audio units in pre 2000 units.............................................................................................................................................................................
the main problem is cost. to do a 2001 system. the only reason the 98 nav switch is doable is the price is now under 2000.00 to buy all the used working parts needed for a conversion to the hard drive system. the price of buying all 2001 up gs conversion parts is way over 3000.00 just from the fact that their arnt many parted out 2001 up gs430 vehicles yet. the 2001 gs headunits are over 1000.00 the computer is over 1000.00. the dvd update 250.00. gps antenna 250.00. the wiring harness would be at least 450.00.so around 3000.00 to get the parts to do the 2001 up system. i could get a plug in and play 2001 up in stock but i alreasdy have an original 98 system in stock for a thousand dollars less.......................................................................... the disc drive version works as well as the dvd system . its not like the original system was an inferior cd rom drive like the 2003 bmw and lincoln units and many other luxury cars had prior to the 2004 standard dvd systems in most vehicles now. the acura had a disc drive unit in 98 99 also and those owners have figured how to substitute a pc card memory to take the place of the disc drive. there is another slot in the 98 gs hard drive computer for that possibility. .
