Default Problems w/ aftermarket head unit

Ok i think i have read this somewhere but can't find anything. For christmas I am gonna have this audio store called hi fi buys(really professional, knows what there doing, only sells high quality stuff) install a cd player for me. They said they can build a custom mounting kit for me and make it look really nice and I was thinking about going with an alpine head unit. Then I remember seeing or hearing about if you install an aftermarket head unit, then something like your speakers won't work or your amp can't power you speakers through an aftermarket one?? I don't know, can you guys help me out, who knows about this? THANKS!

if u get an aftermarket radio it should have its own built in amp, so all you would need to do is get an adapter that fits the wiring harness for your speakers and hook the other end of the adaptor to the harness of your new radio, voila oem speakers will work now. now the thing is finding an adaptor, which i dont think they make, so u might have to find another speaker wiring harness and chop it and use the connector. but like what vredniykot said if the shop is reputable then they can handle it.

when you get an aftermarket HU i think the only speaker that doesn't work would be the Sub. (usually happens with all pre amped systems i.e. bose,Nak,ML. i think you will get a more clear answer when this gets moved to audio dept.

If I were you I would get the wiring diagram from this site, bring it to them, and have them show you how they are going to wire it up. If they're what you expect then they will be able to explain it. If not, you need to figure out how YOU want it done and tell them.

ON lexus SCs it goes HU-->amp in trunk--->speakers. So you have to deal with bypassing the amp or using it. It has been done both ways by people on here.

If you can find a UK supplier to ship to the US then this will do you. (assuming the US and Jap spec wiring is the same) click here
