Default diamond free air sub installed w/pics

Heres a pic of the free air sub installed:

I'm very very pleased with this free air infinite baffle set up:

diamond M6 12" sub
Diamond D3 600W Amp
mdf/carpeted/ baffled/dynamatted rear deck contructed and fitted under factory rear deck

I considered a band pass set up with two 12s or a ported enclosre but I just didn't want to give up valuable trunk space and I was quoted around a 800.00 more than my free air set up.

The Diamond sub comes with a seperate bass control *** that was installed just below the gas tank door release switch.. It's real helpful since the woofer control menu in the eclipse 2454 HU (woofer count) only allows the sub output to be increased/decreased in four increments. .

Very cool, I always thought IB installs were a great space saver and looked cool. Did you find it very difficult to seal the trunk from the interior cabin?

Very nice, how is the sound quality of the sub? Can you tell us how many RMS it is running?

i've had a chance to drive a bit today and really crank the system and i'm beyond happy..

The bass is very clean and punchy and the bass *** really lets you ride the gain of the amp..
I listen primarily to house/electronic music and find each tracks bass level vary so fine tuning is essential track to track.

I was over at FI motoring in N. Hollywood getting a tire fixed and they were impressed with the install and sound quality.. They knew of the installer that did my work and told me he is one of the few that specialize in the Free air baffle set up,, If anyone is interested PM me and I'll give you the shops name.. The work is little on the pricey side but worth it. You can have the best components but with out the correct application you might as well save your money...

Dman: I'm running 600W @ 2ohms...

Also I pulled my JDM dual din dash piece and had the original custom piece poly primed and painted to match.. It sit much better now with out the annoying 1/8-1/4" space. Here's a couple pictures to compare:

Default side shot

you can notice a small gap at the top of the HU as this is neccessary so the unit can open and close.

here's a 3/4 shot showing the flush factory look I was after:

it's the eclipse avn-2454:

DVD player
CD Player
MP3 Player
DVD based Navigation
all touch sreen

It's a dual drive HU so you don't have to remove the Nav DVD to play CDs.
compared to the pioneer avic-n1 or alpine which only has a single drive..

if installed right this double din unit gives the car a factory look..

So you decided to go with the free-air setup? That's awesome. The install looks clean. What did they do to reinforce the rear deck? I have a similar setup in my LS, I'm going to cut the deck to fit a 12" soon and run probably the same amount of power.. trying to see what the best way to support it is..

The shop fabricated a complete rear deck out of MDF with a 12" hole and baffle to make room for the new 12" sub. The entire OEM rear deck was also sound dampened with dynamatt extreme.. The job took about a day and a half and came out very clean..

The fabricated deck.. was that attached to the bottom of the stock deck, or was it put ontop? was it braced to the side of the car at all? Do you have any pics?

Looks great!

I am thinking about the same setup (Eclipse AVN 2454, component speakes in all 4 doors, free air sub), so if you have more pics of the install I would love to see them.

Can you describe the custom fabricated pieces on the rear shelf used to mount the sub and the baffles used to put the 6' speakers in the doors?

How do you like the 6" Diamond components?

Thanks,

James
