Default Adding 10w7 in a GS430 w/ ML

Hi,

I have decided to add 1 10w7 and JL 500/1 to a stock Mark Levinson sound system. Would the stock speaker with the new 10w7 sound alright?

Maybe in the trunk lol. Just bustin ya ***** a little.
Seriously that should sound fine. You may want to wait for the JL Audio clean sweep to come out so you can maximize sound quality with your factory radio.

Default w7

i have two in my car, and its alot of bass, i have 500/1 on each. its not a easy install if you want to get optium sound out of the system. my subs are inside the cabin, where the stock subwoofer is. I had to do some welding and make a cross bar for some support for the box, it weighed bout 55lbs at least. the subs are at least 20lbs each. its alot of bass, alot of time in a system, and well the ml components won't make you happy. I went with jl xr series

Default 10w7

I'm going to remove the stock sub and have a custom enclosure like some GS on CL. Just wanted to know if the bass on the 10w7 will sound okay with the stock ML speakers in the cabin.

Default Bass

Should I just put in a lower model sub like the 10w6? I really don't want to install new speaker in the cabin.

I have a 10W7 in a box firing through the hole that the stock unit sat in. I sealed it all off so it only vets into the cabin. Soudns great and plenty of bass. The stock speakers are okay and you can make do for a little while but eventually you'll want to upgrade as they leave something to be desired. Make sure to use a JL 500 watt amp or equivalent on that sub. It loves power. I have the Nak system BTW but the wiring should be similar. I took the sub preout from the amp in the trunk and connected RCA ends to it and plugged it directly into the JL amp.

Default 10W6v2

Thanks Guru, that was exactly what I was planning to do.

I've try searching for this but result that came back was not clear, so here is the question.

What's the comparison between the 10W6v2 & the 10W7. There is a deal locally for a brand new 10W6v2 & a brand new 500/1 amp that I was planning to purchase. I would save a little over $100 if I go with the 10W6v2 instead of the 10W7, do you think the saving is worth it or shall I just shell out an extra $100 and get the 10W7. I'm just looking for good, clean & clear bass.

I'm also planning to purchase the custom enclosure from GS Wanted if that make a different.

Thanks in advance,

The 10W6 is fine if you plan to use stock speakers. I knew I was going to install my 3 piece Dynaudio setup eventually so I went with the big puppy. The 10W7 is complete overkill for the stock speakers really. I also upgraded the amp for the front speakers to a JL 150X2 amp. I'm not driving the rear speakers at all at the moment. Maybe later on I will with a new headunit or something. My primary concern would be whether the stock amp will keep up with your JL AND a big amp driving it. I got my 10W7 super cheap as I had a friend who worked at JL. $100 is not much at all so I'd probably get the W7 as I'm sure it will have better resale value later on if you want to get rid of it.
