Phoenix Gold OCTANE-R 4.0:2 good enough for JL 12W6?
Hey guys I was wondering if the Phoenix Gold OCTANE-R 4.0:2 amp would have enough power for my JL 12W6?
I currently have a Lanzar 500watt amp and wanted to upgrade to something of higher quality.
Thanks!

Well looks like i'm talking to myself but I think I've answered my own question...
The 12W6 handles 300watts RMS and the amp does 250 so its a little weak for the sub. Furthermore, JL says optimum is around 375watts RMS and Maximum is like 500ish so I think I'm def going to have to get something in that range....
Hope this helps anyone else with same questions as I had )

Is your W6 a Dual Voice Coil sub? If so Get a 600.1 mono amp(600 watts) 3 for each coil. Most amps...not all...will put out more than the rated rms power if they have a high current leading into them and solid connections throughout. Keep the Octane-R amp and see how it sounds. If you think that the W6 could use a little more ooomph, then look for another amp.

I'm not sure if the 12W6 is DVC....I've checked everyone but can't seem to confirm. Anyone here know?

Ok answered my own question again...from what i can gather here:
http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/pdfs/10_12W6_MAN.pdf
The subs are DVC and they run at 6 ohms.....what the hell does that mean tho cuz all these amps show specs at 4 ohms? for example if i'm purchasing an amp thats rated at 500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms what does that translate to for the 12w6?

go back and look at the wiring options section of the JL owners guide. Just because your amp says it runs at 500x1 and 4 ohms, it can run a different load level. Check the amp owners manual and it should tell you all the ohm loads it can run at. One thing about JL subs is that they build them with the idea that you will buy there amps. They make their amps to run their subs. This can explain the weird ohm levels of the subwoofers they make. Your sub is a DVC if it has 2 negative connections and 2 positive connections.

I didn't wanna open a whole new thread for this...but is there any advantage in buying an amp that does 400 watts or 600 watts constant from 1 to 4 ohms?
I'm looking at the Phoenix Gold X400.1 and thats 400x1 (1-4 ohms).
Just wondering what that meant performance wise if anything as opposed to an amp that increases as the ohm load decreases....
