I'm a brand-new owner of a '97 LS400. Sound system (Pioneer) is OK, but I'm itching to upgrade speakers - as I have in every other car I've owned in the past 20 years.

Do you guys have some suggestions? I usually buy at the Crutchfield $ level - not the audio stratosphere(i.e. Dynaudio!)

Specs from mobiletoys.com tell me that front door speakers are 5 1/4", amd rear door are 6 1/2". Can I drop in better speakers without changing out wiring or crossovers?

I'm not interested in booming bass, so had not planned to replace the subwoofer or tweeters, unless you gurus think that will be a major improvement.

Welcome aboard! Don't have any firsthand experience with an LS but if all U want is a simple upgrade, then changing out the speakers themselves to Diamond Audio or Boston Acoustics will go a long way! Just try those sizes U mentioned on the factory amps & if U're happy, then leave it alone. However, U might find yourself needing a larger amp to really make the speaker swap kick butt!! If so, consider a good multi-channel amp from a/d/s; Fosgate; Orion or any of the name brand companies. Like U said - there's alot better than that out there but if ya wanna play, ya gotta pay!!
