Ok, so I fouund the 20 pin, 12.95, and the 10 and 6 pin set from auto toys... I know I will connect this ones in my car... and that will leave me with 16 wires.... coming out... Now the new radio has a 20 pin, which I got from e-bay... But what about the second plug on the new radio? Where and to what am I going to plug this in to??? Also, I when I put the 10 and 6 pin plugs to the car... I will have only 16 wires coming out.... But the new radio has a 20 pin and a 12 pi plugs. .. Am I forgetting a plug?

the 12 pin plug is the cd changer plug and is not used sinve the 98 cd changer plug comes out of the amp. but the plug can be used for all sorts of things like adding xm radio direct to the head unit. the reason there is more wires on the 20 pin is all the wires arnt used on the 10 and 6 plug. the 20 pin has a wire in every slot needed but some of the pins will have to be removed in the 10 and 6 pin since it is color coded and pins placed for toyotas. lexus 10 and 6 pin totally different than toyota. thats why you need the color wiring harness diagrams for 98 and 2001 gs so you can get all the pins in the right positions and splice the matching wires together. the universal color coding wires on the connctors arnt going to be correct for lexus so you will have to match the wires by slot position. remember the lexus connctors read right to left from front of connctor. and aftermarket read left to right from the back of the connector. now you know why custrom stereo shops charge so much . it is time consuming to correctly make an adapter harness.

Smile You da man......

Man, thanks alot bro.... If you were in Cali, I'd buy you a six pack of your favorite brew... I was on a website called tune-town... They offer the wire diagrams there for $10 for the year.... Any here have that membership that might hook it up??? I e-mailed them asking if they have what I am looking for before I sign up. But thanks alot for the help... You are making it easy for me to do this hopefully...

the aftermarket guys tune towns wiring diagrams arnt going to help. you need to know the exact pin location of each wire on the connector. all the aftermarket diagrams is say b +blue yellow. that doesnt help attach the bue yellow wire to the correct wire on the adapter. plus they have zilch adapters for any lexus except 92 to 96 es so they couldnt have the correct wiring diagrams. they dont even carry the 2001 20 pin radio plug and are mislisting the 2003 toyota radio plug as the 10 pin 6 pin when it has a 20 pin plug.

Hey Rockero. Did you ever end up doing the swap? How does the new head unit sound compared to the original?

Unhappy GS radio swap

I have not done the conversion yet, I am waiting on the radio. I should have it tomorrow. I have the harnesses already. As soon as I get it, and hook it up.. I will post the result. I am told that it will sound much better.. I am leaning towards thinking that should be the case. I really just wanted the 2 extra buttons so it does not look so basic.. . My system actually sounds pretty good as I replaced the stock pioneer sub with a kicker free air and kicker mono amp. It bumps really tight W/O a box even.... I did not want the box, so I was surpeised by the clean sound the free air kicker provides... Also dynamatted the trunt under the lining to improve the tighness..

So Rock did you ever get this beast to work? I'm wanting to do the EXACT same thing that you're doing but wanted to know if its actually doable?

It's definitely do-able. I never did it, but SeattleGS400 recently did it and he said it made a nice improvement in his sound quality. There's a CL member who will build the wiring harness for you for pretty cheap (I can't recall his handle, but if you do a search, you should be able to find it), so there's absolutely no splicing involved -- it's just plug and play.

I should be doing that in the next week or 2. It has taken some time to get the harnesses wired and back to me.. I will find out in the next week or 2 I hope.
