Naka/Pioneer system-Amp/CD changer "Poll", what are common failure probs-prevention?
Hi
Just purchased an SC with Nakamichi system, has a 12 CD changer.
So far, works well, but ultimately, I want to open it up to do ANY preventive items needed to keep it running .
So far, Ive tabulated the most common failure problems from reading ALL the threads here. This is the best site for this topic.
Question- Please list :
1) Symptom of amp or cd player
2) cause of failure if you know it
3) what did you do to fix it, or are you still living with it.
Ultimately, I am hoping we can determine if we can repair or do a preventive strike on the amp and CD player to fix them.
So far,
looks like here is the most common prob for
AMP- water in trunk damaged amp, or crackling sound and replaced amp, from my reading elsewhere ,OR, another cause is failing capacitors in the amp that are due to old age and just need replacing
CD player- stuck magazine mechanism- perhaps clean and lube of mechanism will address, OR, failed laser pick-up , perhaps caused by haze and a cleaning helps it, OR, laser pickup has seen better days and it is replaced and aligned by a stereo repair shop-you typically can not do this yourself unless you have alignment "tools". Note: some folks replace with another "used" unit, but , how much life is left in that "used " unit?
So, if you would , please list the answers to #1-3 to see if we can get a consensus and perhaps a preventive maintenance or repair that can be done to keep the existing units working .

A common problem is that the speakers are just gone! They are paper cone speakers and after so much listening over the years, they finally croak! Especially the ones in the back deck!
