Default Couple questions about amps and sub

I'm looking around for some amp kits that will power a Fosgate Punch 300x ( 75x4 into 2 Ohms or 37.5x2 into 4 Ohms) going to my speakers and most likely some other Fosgate Amp to power my 10" OEM sub in my 1998 GS400 (that had Nak).

How much power should I use from an aftermarket amp to run the stock sub? I'm not looking for competition, but something nice and solid.

Is there a difference with amp kits? Or are they pretty much the same?

Also, what gauge should is best to use in this case?

Thanks, everyone.

on the amp kit you don't need anything more than 4 gauge.

8 gauge is fine for your amp for front speakers. For the sub amp, 100-150 wattes is prob all you need. I had the Nak sub you're talking about, and it can't take a lot without distorting, you'd do weel to find a direct replacement since you're already planning on putting in a new amp. Use 4 gauge for the sub amp. If you do decide on a new woofer, then you can use more power, 250 watts up to the amount of power the new sub can take, depends on what you get.
There is a difference with amp kits, there's junk, and there's better. It usually isn't the cable that's the problem, just cheap connecting hardware. I'd stick with Monster or someting decent.

Any suggestions on replacement subs?

I'm not looking to take up any more room in the trunk...just a replacement for the 10"...

Do a search on CL for "free air sub". There's a JL 10IB4 that's discontinued, a Kicker, and a few others that you can drop in fairly easily.

Okay, I'll search it out. Thanks!

By the way, the amp I bought for the sub is a Fosgate 400s. It still has another year on the warranty, which is great.

Anyway, it's 200 x 2 at 2 Ohms. What's the significance of Ohms?
