Question

What is the procedure for replacing the door speakers on a SC4??? Can the speaker covers be removed or does the door has to be torn down??? If so, how hard is it??? I've replaced speakers in a 300ZX I owned, but on the SC4 I don't want to damage anything with the leather/material around the upper window frame...

What do you think about the Infinity Kappa 462.1cf 4"x6" plate speakers and I.K. 10.2t tweeters???

Exclamation watch that door panel!!

Hiya Ikon. I pulled the door panel to replace my speakers in the 92 400 I had. Be very careful! It is easy to break the top part of the door panel where it is narrower if it flexes enough. Both doors panels broke during the install, but it was not that noticable. The speakers are in a nice enclosure.

Does someone have a manual describing the 'official' procedure?

Thumbs up

Sorry about your mishap!!! Did you use the 4 1/2 or a larger size speaker... 4x6, 6" or 5x7 I've been told these sizes can fit the stock openings... Any one with manual please or info please respond...

Thumbs up Upgrade complete

Ok, here is the scoop. 3 phillips at the bottom of the door, 2 on the side under the plastic tops by the hinges, 1 under the black plate by the door lock mechanism, 2 long ones in the armrest bottom. Pull panel carefully, on 92 this was all one piece, on my 93 the frame around the window is seperate (thank God!)

I used existing speaker box in door for acoustics, put in 4 1/2 inch Diamond & tweeter in stock location. Since it seems a bear to go through the wiring harness, I kept the exisitng wireing and glued the x-over in the speaker box! Works great.

The rears I put in 6 1/2 Diamonds, some drilling and dynamat was needed, but turned out great! Next step is sub, then amps. Sounds nice with stock system, just needs more omph!

Default diamond components

933005spd, I'm considering the Diamond set-up that you just decribed. It appears that there will be a leftover set of tweeters and crossovers from the rear set for my SC300 install. Is this correct? Does Diamond sell just the 6.5 inch drivers.

Also, I like the idea of dropping the 4's in the front and prehaps an easier tweeter install than with the dyn tweeters.

Unhappy window won't roll down

Well I've installed the Diamond Hex 4 1/2" components in the passenger side door and it sounds good. The crossover is (sitting on the "floor" of the inside door) wedged behind the stock speaker enclosure and the window roll down mechanism(?), and now the window will not roll down using either side window controller. I remember stuggling a little to unclip the power window wiring harness when taking off the panel but everything seems to be intact. Is my problem the location of the crossover or damage to power window clip connection?

Thanks,
Kevin
