Anyone heard of this amp? Here are the specs and it's only a little over $100. I thought it might be adequate for the JL sub.
A 218X
- Bridgeable 2 Channel Amplifier
- 90 Watts RMS x 2 (4ohms)
- 120Watts RMS x 2 (2ohms)
- 250 Watts RMS x 1 (4ohms) Bridged
- 180 W x 2 Max.
- Variable Crossover (50-250Hz) Selectable High or Low Pass
- S/N 100dB
- Bass Boost (45Hz) to 12 dB
- MOSFET Power Supply
- THD 0.04%
- 2 RCA Inputs
- 2 RCA Outputs
- 2 High Level Inputs
- 2 ohms Stable
- 11.8" L x 2.2" H x 10.1" W
- Freq Resp10-35,000 Hz
Also, I'd appreciate more detailed instructions regarding the installation for an SC300. Do I remove the exisiting small amp? Will I need to solder RCA plugs to the input lines? That kind of stuff.
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin - U may need a stronger amp than that because, unless JL changed things, aren't all their free-air woofers 8 ohm? If so, U'll only be putting 90 watts to the sub &, IMO, that's about half of what U need to match the woofer to. I do recall that some of their older IB's were available in a 4 ohm impedance - might double check that spec.

Thanks Gene, The JL audio 10IB4 is rated for 100watts at 8 ohms. I guess I could used a little more power but it's probably not necessary for my listening perference - SQ.
Can some please help me with the rewiring? I want to bypass the stock sub amp.

Kevin - Power buys U clarity, not volume. That way U don't drive the speakers into distortion or clipping, both of which are more likely to damage the woofers than excessive power. Just something to think about. BTW - U can use a line level convertor to bypass the factory amp ( changes from speaker outputs to RCA outs ).

Gene, Thanks for the tip. I'll add some more juice.
Regarding the LLC, aren't the existing inputs to the factory sub amp (that I want to replace) low level? Why do I need a down convert the signal using an LLC? Or is the purpose of the LLC only to get the RCA inputs for the replacement amp.
Thanks again,
Kevin

Kevin,
You can't tap into the low levels for the sub. They're within the amplifier itself so it's quite difficult! Just take an LLC after the subwoofer output and then feed it into the amp of your choice.
