How about on a 12 volt system? Car off. Distortion levels with car running? THD? The MC4000M is rated for 1000w rms, at 12 volts. 0.005 percent distortion, from 20-20khz at BELOW rated power levels (where most of the grunge will occur...at the below rated power level). JL has a S/N ratio listing at the below rated power level, but NOT the THD. If they don't list, then it's usually at 1khz, which is usually the lowest number. I'd like to find out what the entire distortion spectrum (audio) looks like.

Even if they met all the criteria for their "specs", I would still have to take a look at the components that they're using. That way, I could look at a section and say "wow...they really beefed it up" or "that's where they were penny pinching".

Don't get me wrong...the JL looks like a fine amp. But, as Engin_ear mentions, it's more of a middle tier product...unless JL "really" outdid themselves and are trying to make a statement product...much like the Alpine F#1 Status or the Sony XES systems.

Which JL 12s do you have? Because, unless they are W6s or W7s the JL 1000/1 will be too much power.

Generally the Monsters are better, but depends on how much you want to spend.
You pay more for the Monsters 'gimmicky' factor, but in general they're pretty decent. If you wanted to spend a ridiculous sum of money, there are many better cables out there, but they're only for us sicko audiophile types.
