These remote keyless entry thing they sell on ebay... will they work for my 92 SC400? I didnt get the remote with the car when I bought it and was just wondering if any one of these will work wasnt sure cause they all say like 93+. Keyless entry is standard on the car right?
Still doesnt answer my question fellas, will it work or no? These keyless ones on ebay and such... does it work with a 1992 or do i NEED to get an aftermarket for it to work?
The 92 key is different with the transmitter mounted right on the head and only one button. So I doubt it will work with this later unit with more buttons.
as far as i know, if you want to get one from ebay you need to see if the FCC id matches the one that goes with your car, but anyone can chime in if that's wrong.
CleanSC , any chance of an opened up view of your remote? Dont you find it a pain not being able to have it on a keyring, great idea but thats the only thing that stops me doing it.

The inside of my key is classified information.
lol I'll try to snap a pic today and post up.
The fact that I can't put it on a key ring is an advantage for me. If you strap keys to this thing, it will get beat up much faster than by itself. In the past with old alarms with remotes on key rings, in a couple months the remotes are BEAT UP from the constant abuse from the keys. They nick, scrape, and wear the remotes down. With this setup, my remote looks like I just bought it and I have used it everyday for a year.
Try and show me any aftermarket remotes or factory keyfob transmitters that don't look like hell after a year strapped to keys -- you can't. Besides, it's lighter in the pocket.

The remote key (transmitter) and receiving unit used on the 1992 SC are a matched set. The receiver is NOT programable to recognize a new key. If the key is lost or for any reason needs replacement, the whole system must be replaced including the receiver mounted in the car. Only the newer ones which use keys with 3 buttons are programmable as long as you still have at least one functioning master key. The receiver can be "taught" to "forget" all other keys in its memory except the master key you are using to access it. It can then learn to recognize up to 3 additional keys. I have heard that Lexus (corporate, not the dealer) will in the spirit of good will replace one time only the key and receiver in the older non-programmable cars for those owners who do not have a functioning remote key. Lexus will supply the parts (retail value is substantial) the dealer will probably ask for a couple hours of labor for installation. Bottom line, if the FCC numbers on the key do not match or if you have a 92 with a key which only has a single button on the edge of the key, there is NO WAY to program the on board receiver to recognize a new factory key . Whole system must be replaced either at your cost or with Lexus' assistance.
