Before everyone starts posting the obvious of going to a Lexus dealership, where can I get the REMOTE KEY made? I called a dealership today and they told me it would cost....get this......$250 F***ing dollars!!! What the hell?
I only have the "button" key and would like to the key that locks/unlocks the doors. BUT, for $250 I can get an entire new alarm system.
If anyone knows of somewere besides a Lexus dealership - or one that will charge less than $70 - please let me know.

Default sorry dude...

Hey Bro,

I had that happen to me with my Audi and I was able to get one from a company called Lock World out here in San Francisco. I called them and they said you might be able to find some place that would do it for you, but you are better off getting it from the dealer. They did it at one time, but the cost to them wasn't much less than that you get from the dealer so it wasn't worth it for them to be in the biz. If you find a place, please post it.

Good luck,

Just got a re-blade remote key (used) for my IS for $85. The guy was really cool and service was amazing. His email is wolftng@hotmail.com.

I lost one of my 2 remote keys and needed to get a replacement just in case. The local dealer wanted $170+tax. The sponsor dealer within club lexus wanted $150+. eBay was selling them (blank blade) for $70+ (and u have to find a local lock smith that can cut it for u). This guy (Wayne) was so easy to deal with that I just sent him 2 pictures of my key and he was able to cut a key for me. No hassle!

Go to this site if you have registered your car at the national lexus registery ( www.lexus.com) you can go to www.lexusparts.com and order one. I did and it only cost me $50.35 with shipping.

So even though I'm not the original owner of my 98 Sc400, I should still register it with Lexus? I didn't know about this either. Please advise, thanks.

I can only tell you that if you want a original lexus key and to be notified of any recalls you need to register. Also Lexusparts.com will not sale you a orginal key cut to your car, by you vin# if you are not reigstered

I too lost my smart key, just order one through Ebay for 60.00us to Canada, it need to be reprogram, but i don't need the key to be cut since i think it is useless, i always carry a backup set of batteries.

FYI, if you need to change the code of the smart key, PLEASE declare that you have a remote starter if you have one, they blew up my car computer when trying to put another code in and concluded that the remote starter is the culpid. I found it the hard way but they will pay for the mistake.

Also, inform to the dealership when you need your key to be cut, some dealers wouldn't not do it, afraid tp damage the cutting machine if the material is unknown.
