Custom Rx300 Aftermarket Navigation System
#1
Hello, I had a wild idea on how to get a navigation system into the rx300. It came from philips. I have attached an image of where the screen would go. There would be a button somewhere and when you press it, the screen comes up like in the photo and when you are done it goes back down. I would like to get this installed in my car but need an experience person to do this. This would be the greatest aftermarket Navigation for the RX. Let me know what you think guys.

I had a very similar idea before, where a monitor is designed to POP UP from the top of the dashboard when I press a button which triggers a mechanical lift that pushed the monitor up.
Now since VideoNavi is working on getting the TV tuner right then I can hook up auxiliary stuff to it so NO NEED for another monitor, but hey if I get some extra cash in my pocket in the future I will~!

I believe Volvo and Infinity have some models with
nav screen like that. The Toyota Alteeza(Japanese
model of Lexus IS300) also seem to have that.
The location allows you to see the screen withouth
looking down... However, one major problem is
sunlight, especially with the RX300's long dashboard.
The screen can be hard to see in direct sunlight...
IMHO, the ideal solution would be a normal Nav screen
(mounted anywhere), and a smaller head-up display
on the lower windshield directly in front of the driver.
(showing only direction arrows and distance to the
turn)... what do you think?
On the other hand, I've rarely looked my RX300's
navigation screen, except when entering destinations
and stuff.... when driving, I find the voice guidance
sufficient... I've driven to 12 states in my RX300
without a map, with the nav screen off most of the
time... (NY, PA, VT, NH, OH, IL, NC, SC, VA, MD, DC, GA,
FL) The nav system is accurate 98% of the times.

ToyotaLexus, that would be a really kool idea, where can I get a system like that installed from? The reason I like the pop up is because it can be hidden and no one will know its there, you can show off by pressing a button and it goes up or down. I am just looking to get a GPS in the car by anyway possible. GlobeCLK suggested puting a screen on the dash, but that would not flow smoothly with the entireRX300 interior setup, (looks awkward). Help from anyone is appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks
