Default Amp getting really hot, speakers fuzzy

I have a Nakamichi amp that I just got from another member and I don't think it works. The speakers sound like when you are on a station and not getting good reception, but it does it with tapes as well. Another thing is the amp seems as if it is extremely hot. Does this mean that the amp is bad?

Could possibly be that there is a problem with the unit.

Is there any way that I could test the amp, so that I could single it out. Also, how hot should a stock amp get?

Thanks

find the power wire and use a volt meter to test the power coming in and going out. That will be a good indication of what might be going on. As for hotness, it shouldnt be uncomfortable to the touch.

I know that there is power coming in, so what would indicate that something was wrong. The speakers are working but they have a static sound. It's not reception because it is doing it with tapes too. Any other suggestions?

What speakers are you power with this amp?

How is the amp wired?

If the amp is running HOT in a short amount of time, CHECK THE OHM LOAD.
