JL Audio CleanSweep is freakin' awesome, haven't seen one in person yet though. Prob about $300 bucks. You don't need it if you're just adding subs and keeping your stock amp and adding sub amps.
There's also an AudioControl unit that does similar LLC functions. I have a thread on this in audio forum, check it out:

Alpine is generally good, and their F1 Status stuff is excellent but expensive.
Polk good, I've heard some good Polk MOMO stuff in the past couple of months in demo cars. In factt now that I think of it one of 'em WAS the Polk demo car, sounded awesome.
Both brands are good for reasonable pricing. You can do better sound-quality-wise, but you'll be spending more.
I do agree that those blue Soundstream spiders will look good in your car, esp. with some blue fiberglass work around them. I'd pay a lot of attention to the amps your gonna get, you have to stay within the limits of your electrical system unless you want to upgrade your alternator. You're prob OK with (1) 1000-watt amp or less, but (2) of 'em (one for each woof) is prob too much juice. Like everything else, depends on how crazy you want to get and how deep your pockets are and how much you want to screw with your car.

If you were to run two 1000-watt amps for instance, the overall peak current requirement is too much for a stock system, and begins to look more like a dead short to your alternator when you crank the system up loud. Can fry your alternator for one. I'd stick with no more than one 1000 watt amp, bridged or monoblock, to 2 woofers, keep the stock alternator, put in an Optima Yellow Top if you don't already have one.
You could do these Soundstreams = VanGogh:
http://www.soundstream.com/sub/products_subs_vang.html
with one 1000 watt RMS amp.
If you want something a little more showy and less SPL, these have blue zirconium coated cones:

that amp is insane
which subs were you referring to?
For the Van Gogh's, I'd use one JL 1000/1, or a Zapco, but that's me. You could get by with a PPI for less $$ and prob a host of others like Alpine, Eclipse, etc if you're not being critical.
also you might want to check out Eclipse subs, aluminum or titanium.
check here for prices: www.woofersetc.com

subs:::soundstream

amp??

what else do i need
Get the Soundstream Human Reign (it's not worth the money if you are looking for sound quality) but for looks at shows it will definitely turn some heads. And it's a 7 ch amp so it has more than enough power to run everything....

Scary ***** eh...
