Speakers die when it rains. HELP!
OK, I'm totally ignorant to any kind of audio work. So, please forgive my ignorance.
I just bought a '93 SC300 (without the NAK system) and have noticed that when it rains a lot or after washing the car the speaker volume seems very low, but the bass hits really hard.
Whats the deal? Is there water leaking to the amp or something?
Is my amp blown? How can I bypass it and just run without the amp for now?

I have a couple of suggestions Older SC's sometimes leak water where the amp sits. I'm not sure how to fix that but I'm sure you could find a solution searching the old posts.. The other thing to check is the OEM cell phone, assuming you have one. Check out http://www.carstereohelp.com/repairD...sRepairVol.htm and look at the "do it yourself" repair.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Shorting your telephone mute system
Try this:
The rain is somehow getting into the interior of my sc400 and soaking under the back seat on the driver's side. This shorts out the plug for the car telephone. For now, I have unplugged the telephone plug. (I took the 'phone out any way). If you lift the back seat, you will find two plugs. One is white. Leave that alone. Unplug the orange plug and your sound system should come back.

OK, I unplugged the oranged connector under the seat and it sounds the same . Then I went into the trunk and removed the amp. It is all corroded on the underside of the electrical board. With the amp removed, the stereo still sounds the same. Is it safe to say that the culprit is the amp?
Is there a way to bypass this amp to the speakers?

Problem solved -- i hope
I had the same problem. It is most likely a clogged water drainage tube. The drainage tube goes from the gas cap area down to the bottom of the fender to drain any run off water that may collect or flow through the gas cap area. My tube was clogged and my amp was under water. The best way to drain the water is to pull the tube off where it meets the bottom fender. Then, completely remove the tube or check it for clogs, cracks, leaks etc.
Good luck.
Good luck.
