hey guys,.,. static,
i get static in the radio even if the radio is on and the volume is low. but i noticed it makes static through the speakers only when i am pressing on the gas pedal... what is that? bad ground?,.,. loose connections?

haha, same thing happens with my car. Old system is my guess. I don't use the radio anyway, ever since i had my aftermarket Amplifier and Sub hooked up, the AM frequencies have been absolutely herendous. FM still works with no static, but AM is shot. Sometimes if the AM is on and volume real low, I'll step on the gas and hear a nice hissing sound. One time my car went faster cause i thought i had turbo hissing. Just once though. Kinda how like the dancing hoola girl on the dash adds 40hp

I'm not sure what causes it, possibly a wire gone bad in the back causing a bad connection?

The people who make home audio equipment pay a lot attention to the power supplies and try to make them as "clean" as possible. The power supply in your car stereo, on the other hand, shares it's power with a spark generator that arcs 50,000 Volts thousands of times a second. It's like trying to read a book while someone throws firecrackers at your feet. Goofy analogy, but I'm tired.
The car has a couple of things that keep that spark from interfering with your stereo's sound. One is a condenser (a capacitor) that's mounted close to the alternator. It wears out over time and needs to be replaced. The other thing is your spark plug wires - the plugs expect a particular impedance in the wire, but over time the insulation breaks down and can cause arcing problems. If you have never replaced the spark plug wires on your '93, you should probably do so. Your idle will be smoother and your acceleration will improve.

I hate to ask, but did you have the noise problem before you changed the spark plug wires? Different wire types have different impedances, and substitution of one type for another can sometimes result in increased noise.
As far as the O2 sensor goes, I think if you have reversed +12 and ground the sensor would not work and your car would run like crap. I have to confess, though, that I'm not sure how O2 sensors really work, so I guess anything's possible.
My money's on the plug wires though.

I'm having the exact same problem; whenever I accelerate, or do anything (use my blinkers, brakes, A/C, etc) other than steer, my stereo gets VERY distorted and staticy. CD, tape or radio; it all sounds terrible when it is going on. I have a '94 SC400 with the Nakamichi 12 disc, 7 speaker system.
This started last week seemingly out of no where. I had the car tuned-up about three months ago but haven't done anything else but have the oil changed since....
This problem is just one big question mark for me on all sides...
My question is how do I solve this problem? I don't really like the idea of some stereo shop or mechanic "searching" for a fix, that seems like a very expensive and non-efficient way to address the problem. At the same time, I really do need a stereo that works in this car. How can I find out whats causing this? What needs to be fixed or replaced? ArrGGgg!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, for your relies and or help!!!
This whole no music thing while driving my beautiful Lexus is really really bumming me out...
