i have a 93 SC300 and i am looking to redo the entire system. i dont know much about car audio. i would like to know about the quality of car audio equipment (subs, amps, speakers, etc) from these companies...jbl, jvc, fosgate, pioneer, panasonic, sony, clarion, blaupunkt. i am only limited to these brands because of my discounts. i would also like to know what setups other owners on her have and any other info that might be useful. thanks!

Almost completed my install, I wanted no visible mods so went for:
Infinity Kappa 165mm rear spkrs
JBL GT4" splits in stock doors
Single 8" Rockford sub "free air" mounted below rear deck
Twin Kenwood amps mounted above the fuel tank
Head Unit - Becker Mexico Pro CD
I have never been able to play with Boston speakers but the one set I listened to where very good.

Hey London Bill, I like your install. Can you give me some info on the pocket under the head unit? Did you make it or buy it?
Also, if any others have similar custom installs, I would like to see them. I am planning to upgrade my system and would appreciate some ideas.
Thanks,
David

David;
The pocket is out of a Renault dash (fitted to many of the Euro models), but it is about 4mm short so leaves a little gap between it and the ashtray lid, I am hoping to install a HKS boost controller soon so I will fabricate a new mounting panel to fill that space.

personally, i like the stock head unit, i think it looks clean and replacing it just makes it look kinda cheesy
what i did was add 2 12" infinity perfects in my trunk and i'm thinking of swapping out the speakers with some mb quartz.... i'll get some pictures up if i ever get around to customizing my truck with the box that i want

If the stock CD player did'nt skip so much I would have kept it in place and changed the speakers & power, even though it sounds pretty average.
At least my replacement is actually black like the rest of the console components and dont look like something out of star wars, no bleeding Dolphins either.

The brands you listed aren't necessarily what I would have chosen although some of them do make pretty good stuff. It really depends on how much you are looking to spend.
This is what I have in my 1992 SC400-- Kenwood KVT-910DVD (DVD/CD reciever with TV), Kenwood KSC-900CTR (Center channel speaker), Phoenix Gold XS2500 Amp (for sub), Phoenix Gold XS4600 Amp (for speakers), JL W3 12" Sub, MB Quart Components (in the doors), MB Quart Midrange (in rear), Kenwood CD Changer, and Playstation 2 (in glovebox).

I'm not a big fan of any of the companies you listed except clarion. As far as subs go, i'd get JL's. Amps i would go w/ JL's or Soundstream if u can get ur hands on one. Boston Acoustics makes awesome mid range speakers and tweeters. and as far as headunit's go i like alpine or kenwood but whatever you do dont buy sony. All sony's car audio equipment sucks. It's a damn shame your limited to those brands.

As for headunits, i would stick with either alpine or eclipse, preferrably eclipse. They are a little more expensive but completely worth it. I have had 2 Kenwood H/Us break on me (they were excelons too).
