The D1 plays MP3's that are loaded onto a CD, whereas the Eclipse, you can actually load them onto the device itself?

What is the limitations to what you can hook up to the D1?
Could you install:
IPOD Connector
Rear View Camera
DVD Player
XM NavTraffic
TV Tuner
2 Rear Hedrest Monitors

Also, I know you can't modify the directions while driving, but since the DVD Player and Tuner are separate coponents could you use these while driving? Or does the speed pulse prevent all these from working?

I've looked at 'em all. Since I am primarily an audiophile, I wanted decent pre-out voltage to run my big Boston amplifiers. Most DVD/NAV units offer only 1-2 volt pre-outs, but the Eclipse AVN-5435 & AVN-5495 have a 5V pre-outs. This is a BIG consideration for me.

Also, another concern was aesthetics. I absolutely cannot stand flip-up units. I think they look trashy in the GS dash, and force you to use an aftermarket dash kit, make your own, or use the JDM Aristo piece with a lousy pocket under the unit to fill the gap. A double-DIN unit was a must for me. Eclipse won me over with it's clean lines and touch screen.

The new Eclipse AVN-5495 also has a 20 Gig hard drive for storing music, and will accept Sony memory stick. Unfortunately, from what I understand, the hard drive only dumps the music "real time," so you must play the entire disc for it to read into memory. And the Memory Stick is apparently an older version that is not very popular and is not user-friendly when it comes to down/uploading music.

"AVN5495 features a 30GB hard disk drive that provides 10GB for navigation database and 20GB for storage of maximum of 3,000 music files. The navigation database covers the contiguous United States as well as Hawaii and parts of Canada and being hard disk-based, responds instantly. Music files are automatically created from CDs by the "Music Juke" function as they are inserted and into the head unit. AVN5495 plays DVD-Video, CDs, CD-R/RWs and MP3 files and provides multichannel surround sound as Circle Surround II* technology is incorporated"

So, as cool as that stuff all sounds,, the AVN-5435 is probably the better bang-for-the buck of the Eclipse units.

still, even if you have to play the 20 gigs once, isn't that a great feature that all those songs are now stored???

what is the diff in price?

I really liked that you can play DVD's directly on the eclipse without adding a DVD player but I didnt like that the Nav CD had to be removed in order to play DVD's.
I found the 20gb hard drive had difficulty adding music to it. Its not a simple download or something like that. Also, I figured the ipod connector on the pioneer was gonna be much better, but unfortunately it wasnt as good as it seemed to be. Ill probably just buy the FM transmitter for my iPod.
Aesthetically, I didnt like the eclipse as much but I guess that comes down to personal opinion.
The eclipse also had some great reviews though and I think its definitely worth looking into even if for nothing else than just to know what else is out there.
