Ok audiophiles out there, I've got a 5 band equalizer on my mp3 player. Now It's fully adjustable, I can range each band the following way:
All band widths can be ranged from 0-4.0
Center Range is: 40 - 20k on all 5 bands.
Each band then ranges from -12dB to +12dB.
My current settings are as follows.
Band 1:
Center Range - 12k
Width - 4.0
+7dB
Band 2:
Center Range - 10k
Width - 4.0
+9dB
Band 3:
Center Range - 800
Width - 4.0
+4dB
Band 4:
Center Range - 120
Width - 4.0
+10dB
Band 5:
Center Range - 40
Width - 4.0
+9dB
Right now I'm getting a pretty good sound with a nice amount of bass. I was wondering if anyone knows some GOOD settings for 5 band equalizers that will maximize Bass while minimizing distortion. Right now I can turn the volume up in my car, and it will not be distorted from the bass, it just gets distorted from the speakers because they can't handle that level of output. I play a lot of music that is HEAVY on the bass, so any input is appreciated!

Best thing is to use a high pass filter for the speakers, then you can really turn up the low notes. If your HU doesnt have a built in HPF, then you should buy the kind that you wire in right before the speakers. If you get one that blocks below ~200hz, then you can turn up that 40hz all the way to +12dB and get more bass from your sub with no little to no distortion from the speakers. I would also turn down the 120hz range a little
