Power Cable/Fuse Placement Question
Hey everyone. I've been reading these forums on and off for a while, but I just got around to making an account, so first post here.
I'm working on installing an aftermarket amp and subs in my 1996 SC300. I bought THIS wiring kit earlier. If you see the Inline ATC Fuse, it's a circular cable with a 30 amp fuse in between. You're supposed to cut the cable in half, but as easy as that is, I didn't see that when I couldn't use my computer. My cut was much much closer to the black fuse holder, and I crimped the ring onto that end and attached it to the battery. I was just wondering, what are the disadvantages (if any) of having the fuse placed so closely to the battery? Thanks in advance.

You're fine. Actually, the fuse should always be placed as close to the battery as possible. It's there so that if any downstream portion of the wire becomes shorted to ground, or otherwise draws too much current, it will blow and protect the cable and the equipment that is attached to it. The fuse has no way of protecting against a short in the wire that is between it and the battery - that is why that portion should be kept as short as possible, and well-protected from any sharp metal edges that could wear through over time.

Thanks for the welcome and the response. I just wanted to make sure since this install has been full of cutting and splicing and taping (stock head unit/CD changer)...now I can rest easy. I look forward to spending some time here
