Default Eclipse AVN2454: Solution to sub not working?

Hi CL,

I recently purchased the AVN2454 Eclipse double-din unit and just found out that the unit will cause my sub to stop working (because you have to have the factory amp to power the sub). Is there any solutions around this? I'd hate to spend more on an amp and a sub? Thx.

Default Solution for sub

Do you have the Pioneer stock system or Nakamichi. I can help you but I need to know which system you have. My 98 GS 300 had Nakamichi while my 2002 GS 300 had Pioneer. I have changed both so I can help you with either.

Default clean sweep possible

maybe cleansweep from jl can be used backwards. It was made for factory headunits, so....maybe it can be used for factory speakers and amps. But imo why not go out and get a decent sounding component and sub? You did buy a ultra nice headunit.

I think your sub won't work is because the unit only has 4 speaker outputs. I'm assuming these 4 ch are going to the front and rear leaving none for the sub. So in order to use the sub you'll need to add a seperate amp to power it. I'm not sure if you can interface the unit with the stock amp.

If you have the Pioneer system, you cannot use the factory amp with the sub. If you have Nakamichi, you can. I have worked on both and was successful with the Nakamichi but found it not possible with the Pioneer setup.

No way would I ever run the stock sub with that great headunit, you'll be missing the whole low end. I recommend getting a 250W sub amp like Alpine, Eclipse, or JL and putting in a 10" sub replacement.

It sounds good to me and did not cost me the big bucks and loads of time doing the replacement. You would be surprised what that stock sub and amp can do with an aftermarket head unit. I only need it to be so loud. I don't need it where the cops start hassling me. I agree the factory door speakers are lacking in definition and clarity but the sub has an easy job and does it well. Well enough where I don't feel the need to replace both components. I would suggest to give it a try before replacement to see if it is good enough then if not, replace the components then. It could save you time and money. While I could not use the factory amp in my 02, a basic bridged amp was sufficient enough to do the job.
